What we do

We plan and install lighting that actually works for the room, not just a grid of downlights dropped in wherever the plasterboard is clear. That means looking at what you use the space for, where the natural light comes from, and what finish you want.

We handle:

• LED downlight installation: new builds, renovations, or replacing existing halogens
• Dimmers and multi-scene switching (great for open-plan living areas)

All work is to AS/NZS 3000 wiring rules. You get a certificate of compliance on completion.

What’s involved

We start with a site visit (no call-out fee). For straightforward replacements, swapping halogens for LEDs, adding a dimmer, we can usually quote and book on the spot.

For larger renovation lighting plans, we’ll walk the space with you, talk through what you want each room to feel like, and provide a fixed written quote before any work starts.

Installation day is tidy. Drop sheets down, holes patched if needed, all fittings tested and labelled. We don’t leave until everything works.

Honest cost factors

Lighting jobs vary quite a bit. A few things that affect the price:

• Number of downlights: most LED downlights run $90–$160 per fitting installed, depending on ceiling access, whether new wiring is needed, and the fitting itself
• Ceiling type: plasterboard is straightforward; raked ceilings, concrete, or no roof access adds time
• Dimmer compatibility: some existing wiring needs a neutral wire added to support modern dimmers
• Feature or outdoor fittings: conduit runs, weatherproofing, and post-installation sealing add cost
• Switchboard capacity: if your board is already full or doesn’t have RCDs, that needs sorting first (see switchboard upgrades)

FAQs

Can I just swap my halogens for LEDs without rewiring?

Usually, yes. Most halogen downlights can be replaced with a compatible LED fitting directly, it’s one of the quickest wins in an older home. The caveat is transformers: some older 12V halogen setups have transformers that don’t play nicely with LED drivers. We’ll check this on the day and let you know before we go ahead.

Do I need a licensed electrician to install downlights?

Yes. In Queensland, installing or moving any fixed light fitting, including downlights, is electrical work that requires a licensed sparky. DIY installation is illegal and voids your home insurance. It’s also a genuine fire risk if done wrong.

How long does a full LED downlight changeover take?

For a typical 3-bedroom home (15–20 downlights), plan for half a day. A single room is usually under two hours. We’ll give you an honest time estimate when we quote.
