Oxley sits on the railway about 14 km southwest of the city, which makes it handy for commuters and handy for us. We’re five minutes up the road in Middle Park. We’re through Oxley most weeks, and the houses here have a particular set of problems.
What the homes are actually like
Most of Oxley went up between the 1940s and the 1970s. Timber Queenslanders on stumps, low-set brick veneer, the odd cream-brick post-war place. Solid homes. But a lot of them still run the wiring they were built with, and the switchboard is a fuse box screwed to the laundry wall.
